Abstract

The sheet-metal lintel has inner and outer horizontal flanges supporting parts of the inner and outer cavity wall sections and at the same level. These are joined by a bridging portion over the cavity, comprising an upright section extending from the outer flange, joined by a sloping section extending further upwards and across the cavity. From the top of the sloping section a further vertical section extends downwards, and there is an additional horizontal flange extending rearwards above the inner flange at a height equal to that of one or more rows of bricks. The sloping portion forms the only connection between the inner and outer flanges. The total width of the lintel in the horizontal direction is more than twice the overall height, and the additional horizontal flange (22) extends rearwards for half the width of the inner flange (18), in which stiffening sections (24) are formed.
