Abstract
1448120 Bending INDUSTRIAL ENG Ltd 8 Oct 1973 46928/73 Heading B3E [Also in Division F1] A plate bending machine comprises a roll 9 mounted at each end in a frame 2, 3, and a bolster 1 slidable in the frame by hydraulic rams, the bolster having abutment members 10 to contact the plate and form it round the cylinder. In the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2, the bolster is secured to the ram cylinder 6. The frame is in two parts 2, 3, the upper part 3 being hinged at 4 to its associated piston 5, and rotatable away from the bolster and roll by light jacks 11. The two parts are connected only by the roll and bolster, and to equalize the displacements of the upper and lower parts of the bolster, pressure fluid supply to the upper cylinder is controlled by a switch 20 operated by lever 8 and abutment 25 so that the upper part, which may lag behind the lower, is driven until it catches up. The total bending stroke is terminated by switch 23 operated by abutment 24 on the lower cylinder. The plate is fed by driving roll 9 by gear 16 and rack 15, the roll being locked during bending by rack 15a. Rolls 10c on the bolster facilitate plate feed. Fig. 5 shows an embodiment in which the abutments 10a, 10b are adjustable laterally, by release of the abutments from surfaces 31 by jacks 33, followed by traverse of the abutments by lead screw 36, and re-engagement of the abutments with surfaces 31, whereby the bending moment on one side of the plate may be increased to facilitate bending the end of a plate. An hydraulic intensifier (see Division F1) may be added to the fluid pressure supply for the rams and used only when required.
