Studding-chucks. - The relative movement of the part p in the casing a of the tool described in the parent Specification is effected by means of square threads. As shown in Fig. 1, the surface of the upper part of the casing a and the dogs on the part p have left-handed square threads. A nut r is screwed over both parts and locked by a screw s. On reversal of the tool, the part p is thus screwed downwards to open the valve k. In a modification the casing and the part p have right-handed threads of over 10 degrees pitch and the part p is fitted with a collar coacting with a screwed cap secured to the casing to limit the outward movement. The valve is in this case dispensed with since, on reversal, the piston in the upper chamber is automatically withdrawn to relieve the pressure. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes a modification, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), in which the part p and the casing have right-handed threads of over 5 degrees, a bolt q serving to limit the motion. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
