1445199 Tables with illuminated tops J MONTEAGUDO 2 Aug 1973 [2 Aug 1972] 36850/73 Heading A4H [Also in Divisions F4 and G5] A table includes a cylindrical pedestal 10 on which is mounted a top 9 which houses a decorative lighting panel comprising at least two coaxial and axially spaced-apart discs 1, 3, each disc having a different pattern of apertures therein which are covered by coloured filter elements 2, 4, the discs 1, 3 being relatively rotatable in opposite directions by means of a motor driven shaft which is secured to one of the discs and a number of torquetransmitting friction rollers 6 which are arranged between the discs to be in pressure contact therewith. A source of light is disposed externally of the discs so that the lighting effect produced is formed by light passing through those of the apertures and filter elements which are momentarily coincident during the relative rotation of the discs. As shown, the filter elements 2, 4 are variously coloured translucent glass or plastics caps, and the discs themselves may be translucent or opaque. The light source may comprise a number of fluorescent tubes 8 mounted underneath the lower disc 1. The upper disc 3 may be mounted on the motor spindle (15) so as to rotate therewith, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), and the four rubber-covered rollers 6 mounted on cruciform member 5 disposed around the spindle (15) cause the lower disc 1 to revolve in the opposite direction to the upper disc 3. As shown the table top 9 is supported on a cylindrical pedestal 10 and a cylindrical translucent or opaque rim or skirt 11 fits over the top 9 to mask the drive motor device. A third disc 12, which is opaque and has radial slot-like cut-outs 13 may be provided above the second disc 3 and a protective transparent glass or synthetic material sheet may also be arranged over the opaque disc 12 to enable articles to be placed on the table.
