Abstract

1444583 Master cylinders AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 23 May 1974 [31 May 1973] 25966/73 Heading F2F A master cylinder comprises a piston 5 movable in a bore 3 and defining two chambers of which one is connected in use to a source of fluid, a conduit in the piston for fluid to flow between the chambers, a movable valve member 25 of deformable material to prevent flow during piston movement in one direction and a movable wall of rigid material in the form of a washer 31 lying transversely of the bore between the piston and valve member to prevent intrusion of the latter into the mouth of the conduit, means being provided in the form of a plunger 45 for abutment of the wall to open the valve member, when the piston is moved in the other direction, to allow flow of fluid through the conduit. The valve member 25 is constituted by an annular seal of elastomeric material. In a modification Fig. 5 the plunger 46 is of lesser cross-section than the conduit 38 so that fluid may bleed therethrough when the valve is open.
