Abstract

1439936 Steam power plant UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 24 Sept 1973 45494/72 Heading F4A In a steam power plant in which a boiler 2 supplies steam to a turbine 3 driving an alternator (not shown) a controller 15b operates a steam by-pass valve 15 in response to a sensed part load condition to divert steam via a jet pump 18 to a feed water storage drum 17. Valve 15 is linked to turbine governor valve 4, preferably hydraulically, so that valve 4 opens as valve 15 closes and closes as 15 opens. The controller receives inputs from two transducers: 15c which indicates the steam flow from the boiler (lbs./hr) and 15d which indicates the temperature of water leaving the feed water storage drum 17. The controller maintains steam flow from the boiler constant up to the point at which the feed water leaving 17 is at a pre-set value, after this point the controller responds to the temperature only. As shown condensed steam from the turbine passes back to the boiler via direct contact heaters (not shown) a deaerator 11, a high pressure pump 12, and high pressure heater 13. A by-pass, controlled by a valve 17 leads from the outlet of jetpump 18 to the deaerator.
