Abstract

The generating plant consists of a high pressure turbine and a low pressure turbine driving a generator. The boiler supplies steam to the high pressure turbine and, under full load operation, the expanded steam returns through a pipe to the superheater and is then supplied to low pressure turbine. Steam from the return pipe may also be fed through a non-return valve to a feed water heater. When the plant is operating at part load condition, a valve is opened to allow steam from the high pressure stage of the high pressure turbine to flow to the feed water heater so that the feed water is at a higher temperature when it enters the boiler to increase plant efficiency.
