Abstract

1437710 Blasting WHEELABRATORFRYE Inc 9 April 1975 [15 April 1974] 14530/75 Heading B3D A portable device 10 for movably securing a blast cleaning machine to a ferromagnetic surface 20 comprises a rectangular frame 12, 14, electromagnetic means 18 on the frame for releasably securing the frame to the surface, a carriage 22 movable on the frame, and means 40, 42 for linking the blast cleaning machine to the carriage for movement therewith and for maintaining the machine in intimate contact with the surface. The frame consists of longitudinal members 12, which may be 20 to 30 feet long, and transverse member 14 of hollow rectangular cross-section joined to form a rectangle. Legs 16 are provided at each corner of the frame and have electromagnets 18 for releasably securing the frame to the surface 20. The carriage 22 is guided for movement along the members 12 by rollers (26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, Fig. 2, not shown) and has a pair of links 40, 42 for carrying the blast cleaning machine which has a seal 50 and is urged towards the surface by a pair of hydraulic or pneumatic actuators 52. The blast cleaning machine consists of a centrifugal wheel which is disposed in a housing 44 and is driven by a motor 46 to project particulate material supplied from a hopper 49 under the control of a valve 48 against the surface. A chain 68 which is guided over sprockets 64, 66, one of which is driven from a motor 60 and gear-box 62, and is connected at its ends 70, 72 effects movement of the carriage along the members 12.
