Abstract

1434990 Valves NIPPONDENSO CO Ltd 20 July 1973 [28 July 1972 (2)] 34623/73 Heading F2V [Also in Division B1] An I.C. engine is combined with a system to supply air to the engine exhaust system in which means 19 are provided to purify the exhaust gas, the air supply system comprising an intermittently operable air pump 11 connected to the exhaust gas purifying means 19 by an air conduit 15 in which valves 16, 17 are situated to permit air to flow and to prevent the reverse flow of exhaust gas through the conduit to the air pump, valve 16 being a check valve and valve 17 resisting reverse flow and being made of a heat resistant material. Valve 16 (Fig. 2) has a valve member 35 of flexible corrosion resistant material, e.g. fluorinated rubber, urged against a seat 33 by a flat coil spring 3. The valve 17 (Fig. 3) has a stainless steel support plate 44 and a valve seat 46 of asbestine or graphitic fibre laminated together. The support plate may form part of the valve housing Figs. 6 and 8 (not shown), and the valve seat may be a thin sheet of heat and corrosion resistant metal.
