Abstract

1434387 Starting diesel engines SIGMA DIESEL 24 July 1973 [26 July 1972] 35299/73 Heading F1B A fuel enriching device for assisting cold starting of an I.C. engine having an engine driven fuel injection pump comprises a retractable stop member adapted to limit the movement of the pump output regulating rack member so that the pump delivery does not exceed a full load value the stop comprising a member pivoted at one end on an articulation which is adjustable along the rack axis, the member being pivotable between limiting and non-limiting positions and having a portion forming a stop for the rack and means for moving the member to the non-limiting position to deliver more fuel than the full load value for starting, the means including a movable element connected to the members by a link allowing a limited degree of free angular movement of the member relative to the movable element and guiding means to keep the member in a plane parallel to the axes of the control means and the rack. The rack 2 of the pump is pivotally connected to a retractable stop B, a surface 28 of which engages a pin 29 carried by a connecting part 4 pivotally connected at 5 to the rack. Engagement of the pin 29 with the surface 28 prevents the rack moving beyond the "Full Load" position. During starting, a solenoid 14 is energized and lifts a spring-loaded piston 20 having a stem 22 which is engaged in a bifurcated end of the retractable stop B, so that the rack can move to the right as seen in Fig. 1 to provide enrichment. In a modification, Fig. 5, a plate 40 secured to the part 4 engages the end of a rod 38, mounted by a ball-joint 39 in an adjusting screw 26. The solenoid carries an apertured plate 22a which lifts the end of the rod 38 clear of the plate 40 when the solenoid is energized.
