Abstract
1433490 Lubricating rolling mills BRITISH STEEL CORP 10 Dec 1974 [11 Dec 1973] 57338/73 Heading B3M [Also in Division B2] Lubricant is sprayed from nozzles 20 on to the surface of a rolling mill roll 12, the lubricant being atomized by introducing steam under pressure into the nozzles. Each nozzle 20, Fig. 5, is mounted on a tubular support arm 23 through which steam is fed, the lubricant being supplied by a pipe 32 and inlet 21. The nozzles of each array are connected to a common support tube 13 acting as a steam header. The tube is pivotable about bearings 14 at its ends by pneumatically operated cylinders 17 and 18. The nozzles are pivotable between positions in which they face the roll, and inoperative positions suitable for roll changing. The supply of lubricant to the nozzles may be made dependent on the presence of strip in the mill, pressurization of the mill hydraulic system, or operation of the roll drive motors. Similar arrays of nozzles are provided on each side of both upper and lower rolls of a mill, the rolls having work stripper guides 40 associated with them.
