Abstract

1432565 Railway track support bed; prestressing concrete slabs DOW-MAC CONCRETE Ltd and BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD 11 April 1973 [15 April 1972] 17504/ 72 Headings E1G and E1W In a method of making a continuous prestressed concrete support bed for railway rails (1) a succession of precast elongated slabs of prestressed concrete are spaced end to end along a ballast or other prepared foundation, the prestressing strands extending to form end connections between the slabs; (2) the end connections are stressed by jacks inserted in the gaps between the slab ends; (3) the gaps are filled with concrete, epoxy resin or other settable material which is allowed to set before releasing the jacks. The strands may be continuous throughout the support bed or may be joined between slabs by welding or by bonding in a channel of an adjacent slab. The slabs may be cast end to end with continuous stressing strands which are slackened or if necessary cut to facilitate transport.
