Abstract

The railway line resting on a lengthwise foundation made of concrete cast in situ, is laid by first making a trench (1, 1') of a suitable size and following the line of the proposed track. Inside each trench (1, 1') is placed reinforcement metal (2, 2'). Sleepers (3, 4) are placed over each trench and are spaced out at regular intervals. The rails (13, 14) are placed on the sleepers (3, 4). The sleepers (3, 4) and the rail are wedged in position so that the rail is correctly placed and is at the right level. The rail (13, 14) is then joined to the sleepers (3, 4). Concrete is then poured over the metal reinforcements in the trenches (1, 1'), to form a longitudinal sleeper and trapping the base of the sleepers (3, 4) embedded into the top of the longitudinal sleeper.
