Abstract
1430813 Vehicle steps BRITISH LEYLAND UK Ltd 2 Oct 1974 [3 Oct 1973] 46250/73 Heading B7B Pivotal movement of a vehicle door 3 acts through a pair of radius arms 11 and 13 to extend and retract a step 9. The free end of the arm 11 has a wheel 12 running in a guide on the door, and the free end of the arm 13 has a projection 14 engaging a tri-lubular slot 15 in a frame 8 which supports the step 9 and which slides in tracks 7 secured to the underside of the vehicle. The arms 11 and 13 rotate about a vertical axis 10 and are normally relatively fixed; however, an override clutch in their connection ensures that the door can still operate if the step becomes jammed. In movement of the door from its illustrated open position, there is first lost motion as the projection 14 moves along lobe 15a. Then projection engages lobe 15b to move the frame 8 and retract the step. Finally, there is further lost motion as the projection 14 moves along the lobe 15c.
