Abstract

1429631 Ejecting articles from a conveyer belt TELOMEX GROUP Ltd 17 April 1973 [26 Jan 1972] 3703/72 Heading B8A [Also in Division F2] A bi-stable blade spring toggle mechanism for automatically ejecting reject articles from an endless band conveyer 10 comprises a bowed leaf-spring 1 seated between a fixed abutment 2 and a movable abutment 3 and held in axial compression, in one or other of two extreme bowed positions A, B, by a spring 4 seated on a fixed stop 9 and acting on the movable abutment 3, the abutment 3 being secured to a rod 5 which passes through the spring 4 and stop 9 and is secured to the core 6 of a solenoid 7 such that the core 6 is engageable with the stop 9 to limit inward movement of the spring-loaded abutment 3 to define the two extreme bowed positions A, B. In operation, with the leafspring 1 in the normal inoperative bowed position B, i.e. clear of the conveyer band 10, a weighing device (not shown) senses a reject article on the belt and provides a signal to momentarily energize the solenoid 7 to outwardly move the abutment 3 against spring 4 whereby the leaf spring is moved to its straight, i.e. dead centre position such that due to its own inertia it continues over-centre and is spring-urged to its position A over the conveyer 10 to guide the reject article off the conveyer 10. The bowed leaf-spring 1 will then remain in this position until a further signal again momentarily energizes the solenoid to initiate the return of the leaf-spring 1 to its former position. A position detecting device (not shown) such as an electrical contact or photo-cell may be provided to detect the position of the leaf-spring 1 and ensure correct correlation with the signals initiating rejection or acceptance of articles on the band 10, or the system may be arranged to return the leafspring 1 into the inoperative position B remote from the conveyer band 10 immediately after each rejection.
