Abstract

1429248 Rotary positive-displacement fluidmachines DANFOSSAS 5 Sept 1973 [10 Oct 1972] 41778/73 Heading F1F A sliding vane-type pump in which the vanes 14 bear against the internal surface 15 of a ring 16 surrounding a rotor 12, the ring being rotatably adjustable about an axis N offset from the rotor axis M, and the surface 15 being formed over parts C, B and A, D of its surface as an involute of a circular evolute, the centre of the evolute being coincident with the axis N and its radius being equal to the distance NM. By this means rotation of the ring 16 from the position shown in Fig. 1 will adjust the delivery of the pump, but for all adjusted positions of the ring, the portion CB of the surface 15 will for practical purposes have its centre of rotation at the rotor axis M thus minimizing axial movements of the vanes 14 at the part of their cycle in which they are subject to pressure differences between the inlet 3 and outlet 2 of the pump and thus minimizing wear in these parts. The surface 15 of the ring 16 is composed of the two involute portions CB and AD and in the remaining parts of transition curves which may be circular or formed as involutes of secondary evolute circles. Rotation of the ring 16 within the pump casing 1 displaces the centre point O of the surface 15 from coincidence with the axis M to either provide greater pump delivery or delivery in the opposite direction. The vanes 14 are pressed outwards by centrifugal force independently of the pump fluid by the provision of radial channels in the vanes 14 communicating with inlet and outlet of the pump.
