Abstract

1428960 Slotted arm window stays AUTOMATIC PRESSINGS Ltd 21 Dec 1973 [23 Dec 1972] 59581/72 Heading E2F A window stay, of the type in which a stud portion 30 mounted on a window 12 engages in a slotted arm 44 pivotally attached at 56 to a window frame mounting bracket 36, a sliding catch member 54 (Fig. 2) is mounted on the arm and is gravity biassed in the position shown in Fig. 1 with the arm hanging vertically to block openings 70, 72 from the slot but to allow, by means of cam face 104, the stud to enter the slot via opening 70. When the window is opened the stud slides down the slot while the arm 44 pivots outwards until portion 76 of the slot is reached and no further opening is possible. The catch member 54, which is guided on pins 56 and 90, can be manually released to allow the stud to leave via opening 72 and allow full opening of the window. The arm 44 drops back to the position shown and gravity resets the catch member. When the window is closed the stud re-enters the slot via opening 70-acting on the cam face 104 to get past the catch. In a modification (Fig. 4 not shown) the opening 72 and the slot end portion 76 may be spaced along the longitudinal axis of the arm so that the stud must be returned a little from its end position before it can be released from the slot. This provides additional security against accidental release. When the window is of the centre pivoted type which may be turned through 180‹ for cleaning a further catch (Fig. 3 not shown) is provided on the window frame to engage the stud in the fully turned window position.
