Abstract
1427810 Steel compositions and heat treatment ALGOMA STEEL CORP Ltd 11 May 1973 [12 May 1972] 22590/73 Heading C7A A fully killed steel consisting, by weight of:- and optionally 0À02 to 0À10% aluminium the balance being iron and incidental impurities, e.g. silicon, is provided with a substantially ferritic grain structure having an average grain size of finer than 9 (ASTM scale), by a heat treatment which includes heating to at least 2,100‹F, preferably at least 2250‹F, and continuously rolling the steel without any substantial time delays through the temperature range 1900 to 1700‹ F with at least a 50% reduction in section below 1800‹F. The resulting steels are characterized by high yield strength and high notch toughness at temperatures below 0‹F, making them especially suited for use in arctic regions for pipelines and power transmission towers.
