Abstract

1426020 Delivering sheets XEROX CORP 19 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 58828/73 Heading B8R Copy sheets delivered from a xerographic machine by a conveyer 103 are fed to a position 111 on a belt 110, either past rollers 117, 118, or along a curved guide path 107 to deposit them upside-down, according to the setting of a diverter 161. The belt 110 is wound up onto rolls 115, 120 in association with second and third belts 125, 130 respectively, and can be driven in either direction. The sheets are stored interleaved with the belts on roll 115, 120 according to the direction of drive, and on reversal of drive are fed back past position 111 to be collated with subsequent sheets and stored therewith on the other roll, and so on, until finally the roll 115 accommofates a plurality of complete collated batches, whereupon an idler roller 127 is moved to such a position that on the next reversal the batches are stacked in a tray 140, which is reciprocated normal to the direction of sheet travel so as to stagger the batches and thereby distinguish them from each other. Sheets not to be collated are diverted into a tray 180.
