Abstract

1320764 Endless belt and roller conveyers; feeding and delivering sheets FARAH MFG CO Inc 22 June 1970 [19 Aug 1969] 30273/70 Headings B8A and B8R [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for feeding sheets to and from a sewing machine comprises a conveyer 4, a transfer device 5 an input conveyer 10 and an output conveyer 37a. The conveyer 4 feeds pocket blanks 2 to a lifting bar 3 under control of a photo-cell 8 so that the conveyer 4 is only energized to move when the photo-cell senses that no blank is present on the lifting bar. An arm 6 for transferring the blanks to conveyer 10 has adhesive tapes 7 which are continuously wound from one drum to another so as to provide a surface which will remove blanks from the lifting bar 3 as their forward edges are lifted into contact with the tape. When the tape is in contact with the forward edge of the blank the arm 6 turns through 90 degrees to place the blank on the conveyer 10 the two stationary positions of the arm 6 being controlled by cam operated microswitches. A wheel 12 can be lowered to trap the blank between it and a roller of the conveyer 10 to detach it from the tapes. The conveyer 10 carries the blank to the sewing machine. To remove the sewn blank from the machine a conveyer 57a is provided. A forcing roller 24 can move downwardly to nip the blank between it and a roller 10c which moves faster than the other rollers in the conveyer so that a thread chain between workpieces is broken. At the end of the exit conveyer 57a a photo-cell 25 detects the arrival of a finished pocket and initiates movement of a stacking gridiron 26 which has bars located between the rollers at the end of the conveyer. These bars are driven by a pneumatic arrangement through a rack-and-pinion 27, 29 so that pockets are deposited on a stack supported on a rack which lowers the stack by a distance equal to the thickness of one pocket for each pocket located thereon.
