Abstract

1425381 Container traffic ship loading; vehicle platform elevator MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 30 March 1973 [31 March 1972] 15578/73 Headings B8Q and B8E [Also in Division B7] A ship 1 having decks 11 provided with lateral guide rails 21 has an elevator 17 provided with lateral guide rails 20 and a loading platform elevator 10 pivotally mounted at 9 so as to be pivotally extendable out of a side opening 5 and which is movable on vertical rails 14 to align it vertically with the elevator 17 in turn alignable with a deck 11 in which position the guide rails 18, 20, 21 can be connected. With the platform 10 suitably positioned relative to a pier 2 cargo A is deposited on a trolly 22 running by wheels 24 on the lateral rails and having a lifting table 25 capable of holding the cargo above the rails. The elevators 10 and 17 are now aligned with a deck 11 and the trolly 22 moved on the rails to the desired stowage position at which the platform 25 is lowered to deposit the cargo on the rails 21 and the trolly 22 is then returned to the elevator 10. When loading is complete the platform 10 is pivoted to a vertical position and a cover 6 is pivoted about its mounting shaft 7 by an hydraulic cylinder 8 to close the side loading portal 5.
