Abstract

1425260 Vehicle suspensions CLARK EQUIPMENT CO 31 Oct 1973 [7 Nov 1972] 50609/73 Heading B7D In the tractor portion of an articulated tractor scraper vehicle, a drive axle 17 is connected to frame side rails 13, 14 by suspension means 30 which comprise suspension arms 32 pivotally connected at one end to brackets 34 depending from the side rails 13, 14 behind the axle and rigidly connected at the other end to the axle by clamping assemblies 36, and hydropneumatic suspension cylinders 40 located inboard of the side rails 13, 14 with their lower ends pivotally connected to brackets 38 extending inboard from the clamping assemblies 36 and their upper ends connected by ball joints 44 to frame brackets 42 projecting upwardly from the inboard side of the side rails. The pivot axis 23 of the suspension arms 32 intersects a universal coupling 22 connecting a drive shaft 24 for the axle 17 to the output of transfer gearing 19 coupled by a shaft 16 to an engine 15 mounted between the side rails 13, 14. The length of the suspension cylinders 40 is controlled by a levelling system connected to an accumulator and hydraulic pump as described in Specification 1,227,484.
