Abstract

1424320 Safety closure BRISTOL-MYERS CO 19 Jan 1973 [19 Jan 1972 15 Nov 1972] 30991/75 Divided out of 1423402 Heading B8T A low profile flexible snap-on snap-off closure 1 for a bottle 2 has a roof 3 from which extends a downwardly and outwardly lateral skirt 4 on which are mounted lugs 6 to facilitate turning. A tab 5 parallel with roof 3 extends from the lower edge of the skirt 4. A bead (7) (Fig. 2, not shown) on the inside face of the skirt snaps over an annular bead (8) on the neck of the bottle 2, so that tab 5 flushly abuts flange 9 on bottle 2. Flange 9, which has a notch 11 longer than tab 5, has a larger diameter than the maximum diameter of closure 1 so that only when tab 5 is coincident with notch 11 can the closure be removed. Skip additives may be added to the thermoplastic polymeric materials used for both the bottle and closure to facilitate slip between the abutting surfaces. The closure 1 may be coated or impregnated with non-toxic unpleasant tasting substances to deter a child from attempting to remove the closure with its teeth. A stop, disclosed in Specification 1,423,402, may be provided on flange 9 to limit rotation of closure, as may a peripheral guard ring also disclosed.
