Abstract

1343000 Container construction; portable containers EYELET SPECIALTY CO 21 Feb 1972 [7 Sept 1971] 7979/72 Headings B8T and B8D A container construction comprises a stamped metal container closure plate 10 having a circular opening 18 to which is secured a tubular plastics neck 11 having bayonet lug formations (14), 15 for engagement of a cap (16), Fig. 1 (not shown). Interengageable bumps 33 and recesses 34, the number of recesses being an integral multiple of the number of bumps, on abutting surfaces 19, 20 prevent relative rotation of the plate 10 and neck 11. The opening 18 has a lip 21 which engages an annular recess 31 and an undercut 32 in the neck 11, which also has a tubular projection 29 with a bead 28, comprising a first conical cam 29, which engages lip 21 on assembly, and a second conical cam 30 which retains the neck 11 to the plate 10 after assembly. During assembly the neck 11 is rotated, to ensure engagement of the bumps 33 and recesses 34, and axially compressed to deform lip 21 radially outwards into undercut 32. Because of the bayonet formation on the neck the cap has to be axially compressed before it can be removed so that the container can be used as a safety closure.
