Abstract

1422496 Boilers NUOVO PIGNONE SpA 22 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 8263/74 Heading F4A [Also in Division F2] A control valve for pressurizing once through boilers has a hollow plunger 22 reciprocable in a easing formed with an inlet 24, an outlet 25 and a seat 26 which co-operates with a sealing surface 30 on the plunger. In or downstream of the sealing surface 30 the plunger is formed with three axially-spaced circumferential rows of radial holes 31. The plunger is also formed with axial holes 32 in the tip 33 thereof. The upper open end of the plunger communicates with a pressure balancing chamber disposed about an actuating rod 34 which is moved by a servomotor. In use the valve is described in controlling flow in a thermoelectric plant from a steam generator 1 to a turbine 2 having one or two superheaters 3, 4 therebetween and one or two evaporator/flash tanks 6, 8 and a condenser 9 with associated valves in a by-pass for the steam generator. On movement of the plunger from closed position steam is first fed only via holes 31, 32 and the interior of the plunger, further opening movement allows flow directly from the inlet to the outlet.
