Abstract

876,709. Valves. ROBERTSHAW-FULTON Co. April 1, 1959 [July 17, 1958], No. 11101/59. Class 135. A resilient valve member 32 of rubber &c. has a passage 64 with a seat 66 for a pilot valve 26 and is reinforced by a cup-shaped stiffener 48 having holes 54 into which extends the resilient material of the valve member. The valve member coacts with a seat 16 between an annular inlet 12 and an outlet 14 and is slidable in a cylinder 18, being guided by the periphery of the stiffener and by radial ribs 44 which enter the outlet and extend to the same diameter as a small cylindrical part 42 which prevents " hammer " on closing. Chambers 17, 19 on either side of the valve member, which has a sealing lip 38, are interconnected by an orifice 62 in the stiffener. A corresponding orifice 46 in the resilient material is of larger diameter so that the effective size of the orifice is unaffected by deformation of the resilient material due to variations of pressure. The pilot valve, which opens to relieve pressure from the chamber 19 to allow the valve member 32 to open, may be arranged to open or to close in response to energization of a solenoid 30.
