Abstract

1416112 N - acetyl - m - phenylene diamine derivatives CASSELLA FARBWERKE MAINKUR AG 2 Nov 1973 [4 Nov 1972] 50992/73 Heading C2C [Also in Division C4] α - (3 - Acetylaminophenyl) - aminoisobutyric acid nitrile is prepared from acetyl-m-phenylenediamine hydrochloride and KCN in the presence of sodium acetate, as a crystalline product. This is converted to the ethyl ester by treatment with HCl gas in ethanol followed by reacetylation with acetic anhydride (Ex. la). α - Bromoisobutyric acid ethyl ester is prepared by converting isobutyric acid to the acid bromide using bromine, esterification with ethanol, and isolation by vacuum distillation. Condensation with 4-acetylamino-2-amino anisole gives α - (3 - acetylamino - 6 - methoxy - phenyl)- aminoisobutyric acid ethyl ester (Ex. 2a).
