Abstract

1416064 Releasable fastenings HALLAM SLEIGH & CHESTON Ltd 11 April 1974 [17 April 1973] 18403/73 Headings E2A and E2B A locking device, for a pull out unit such as a drawer 1, comprises rectilinearly movable members 3, 4, which when a control rod 20 is pushed to release the drawer, move together during a first stage of opening, member 3 then being arrested and member 4 continuing to move during a second stage. If the control rod 20 is released the member 4 becomes locked to the member 3 to prevent further movement of the drawer. As shown the members 3, 4 slide respectively on stay rods 5, 7 the former being fixed to a cabinet 2. A control plunger 12 and the rod 20 are biassed by springs 13, 26 respectively so that sloping faces 17, 24 thereon engage faces 17, 23 provided on elements 14, 21 which have serrations 15, 22 engaging serrations 8, 9 on stay rods 5, 7 to thereby lock the slide members 3, 4 together. To release the drawer 1, a push button 31 is depressed causing rod 20 and plunger 12 to move leftwardly whereby elements 14, 21 are disengaged from the serrated rods 5, 7 under spring bias (not shown). Slide members 3, 4, being coupled together by a latch 27 move together until the latter strikes a pin 30 so that the members 3, 4 uncouple and member 3 becomes locked to the cabinet as spring 13 causes reengagement of surfaces 16, 17. Thereafter slide member 4 and drawer 1 move away from slide member 3. If the button 31 is released spring 26 causes immediate reengagement of surfaces 22, 23 to lock the drawer against further movement. In a modification no rear stay rod 5 is provided, the rear slide member slides along a channel member fixed to the cabinet. Three or four slide members with the same number of stay rods may be provided arranged around the axis of the control rod and disposed in staggered relationship the slide members being sequentially released from the stay rods.
