Abstract

Casings.-An inter-stage diaphragm 10 is supported by lateral projections 20 which rest upon ledges 16 in the casing at the height of the centre of the shaft, and is held resiliently in a central position by springs 18. The diaphragm may be made in two or more segments held together by ties 11, Fig. 2, and keys 16. For convenience in assembling, the projectons 20 are placed above the centre line, and fitted packing-strips are placed upon the ledges.
