Abstract

1413913 Tubular heat exchangers OLIN CORP 5 Sept 1973 41799/73 Heading F4S In a shell and tube heat exchanger 10 wherein the tubes 26 are embedded within a fluid permeable body 14 such as a mass of sintered particles, the tube assembly is mounted within the shell 29 so as to be free to expand and contract in the direction longitudinally of the tubes. As shown, the tube assembly extends between an inlet/outlet header 22 and a return header 28, the header 22 being bonded at 34 to the shell whilst the header 28 is free within the shell. An intermediate support 25 may be provided for the tubes. In alternative arrangements described (Figs. 3, 5 and 6), either or both headers may be slidably supported within the shell. The header structure may comprise two interfitting parts (Figs. 3-8).
