Abstract

1355503 Tubular heat exchangers BROWN BOVERI-SULZER TURBOMASCHINEN AG 15 July 1971 [17 July 1970] 33383/71 Heading F4S In a shell and tube heat exchanger, a rectangular assembly of tubes is disposed between two partitions 7, 7<SP>1</SP> which extend over the entire length of the shell and form with the shell throttling gaps 9, 9<SP>1</SP> for the shell side fluid. In use the shell side fluid enters a distribution space 10 through inlet connection 5 and flows over the tubes in the space 8 between the partitions before leaving via a collection space 11 and outlet connection 6. The cross-sectional area of the throttling gap 9 is less than that of the throttling gap 9<SP>1</SP>. As shown the shell has a double skin construction 12 for preventing the shell side fluid, which may be extremely hot, from coming into contact with the shell 2 in the vicinity of the inlet connection 5. A porton of the shell side fluid flows through the intermediate space 14 of the double skin which communicates with the shell interior at two distinct locations.
