Abstract

1411481 Packaging machines ACRALOC CORP and RHEEM MFG CO 18 Jan 1973 [20 Jan 1972] 2594/73 Heading B8C A machine for the evacuation, closure by clipping, and trimming of filled plastics bags, comprises a rotating assembly 3 carrying radially extending nozzles 6 to which filled bags may be secured by means of clamps 7, a vacuum source for connection to the nozzles via valve devices 70 which automatically close before each bag enters a sealing and clipping assembly 9 and is then transferred to conveyer 14 by deflector plate 13. The bags are shrunk on to their contents in tunnel 15. Nozzles 6 are connected to outlets 51 of a central evacuated chamber 49, and valves 70, in the form of slotted push rods, are actuated by levers 72 pivoting at 78 in response to rotary cam edge 82. Clamps 7 comprise jaws 96, 97 resiliently faced at 100, 101 and actuated by an over-centre toggle linkage connected to actuating rods 112 which engage fixed camming track 121 as assembly 3 rotates. The bags are manually placed in trays 47 on assembly 3 by an operator standing at point B, the filled bags arriving on conveyer 12. Variable speed motor 42 allows continuous or intermittent operation of the machine.
