Abstract

1404675 Curtain walling BOSTADSFORSKNING AB 19 March 1973 [29 March 1972] 13087/73 Heading EIW In a multi-storey building, curtain walling comprises prefabricated wall elements e.g. 3 each having an inner structure 11 extending between floors 1, and a staggered outer structure 10 extending between joint lines through the upper edges of windows e.g. 7, 8, the outer structure having vertical stiffeners, e.g. 19, and overlapping the inner structure of a lower element. In a preferred embodiment, a wooden framework 17-19 is provided for the outer structure, covered by an outer sheet 21 of asbestos cement, with a further sheet 23 of asbestos cement spaced therefrom by a ventilated space 22. The vertical wooden members 19 extending past the floor are capped at their upper ends by a fire-retarding mass 25 of, e.g. mineral wool, and covered by inner strips 26 or sheets of asbestos cement. The inner structure comprises a framework 12-14 covered by an inner sheet 16. Insulating material 15, 20 is preferably provided in each structure.
