Abstract

1402298 Bearings FIVES LILLE-CAIL 7 Nov 1972 [10 Nov 1971] 51383/72 Heading F2A [Also in Division F4] A bearing, e.g. for a horizontal rotary furnace comprises a plurality of rollers 18 arranged on an arc of a circle, each roller resting on an elastic cushion formed from an elastomeric material, or one or more chambers filled with liquid, e.g. oil under pressure. The bearings 30 of each roller 18 have a shank 32 individually mounted in bores 26 in the chamber wall 24 and bear on a flexible metal plate 28, this pressure being balanced by the oil-pressure in chamber 20. The rollers, being individually displaceable, move to distribute the load evenly. In a modification the rollers are in groups, each group having a separate hydraulic cushion arrangement. Or there can be a separate hydraulic jack for each roller (Fig. 4, not shown). In another embodiment the rollers are replaced by bars 56 forming shoes, fixed on a flexible metal plate 58 which rests on a cushion 60 of elastomeric material.
