1401993 Pipe couplings: packing FURMANITE Ltd 24 Sept 1973 [21 Oct 1972] 48591/72 Headings F2B and F2G On opening duct 5, by undoing screw 15, sealing compound can be injected, while it is setting, into space 8 between pipe flanges 1, 2, held together by a clamping bolt 3. As the inwardly moving sealing compound sets, it forms a barrier against ingress of further compound and, as the pressure builds up within annulus 4, limbs 6 and 7 are flexed so that their ends 11, 12 are forced apart into sealing engagement with the flanges 1 and 2.
