Abstract

1396547 Registering webs AUTOMATIC DRUCKMASCHINENFABRIK DR W HINNIGER UND SOHNE 3 Nov 1972 [5 Nov 1971] 50847/72 Heading B8R [Also in Division B6] A printing machine comprising a main web drawing device to feed predetermined lengths of a web 1 to printing presses 12, 13 through a synchronizing carriage 8 which feeds the web through the presses at the correct speed and position to match the speed of the presses while the feed device is stationary, and presses 12, 13 which have plate cylinders 14, 14<SP>1</SP> with plates 17, 17<SP>1</SP> over part of their periphery in which the leading and trailing edges of each impression have marks 35, 36 (see Fig. 3), put on them during printing which are sensed by a photoelectric device 29 which sends a signal to the main web drawing device to adjust the length delivered to the press such that the marks are kept coincident on line 28 during operation of the machine. The line 28 may be used as the cutting line for a perforating unit 26. The marks may be formed on the printing plate 17, 17<SP>1</SP> or on adjustable rings mounted on one end of the plate cylinders 14, 14<SP>1</SP>, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). The machine can be reset for various format lengths by using the adjustment device before starting a printing run, the fine adjustment then taking place automatically.
