1,060,865. Folding and collecting cylinders. MASCHINENFABRIK WINKLER, FALLERT & CO. A.G. April 10, 1964 [May 24, 1963], No. 14873/64. Heading B6H. The collecting cylinder 2 of a folding machine is made up of individually adjustable segments 9, 10 and 11 whereby the radial distance between the centre of the cylinder and each segment is adjusted by cam means as the cylinder rotates, so that the peripheral speed of a segment or the outer sheet on the segment is the same as the speed of the sheet being collected. Each segment is pivoted at 12, 13 to links 14, 15. The links are mounted on spindles (16), Fig. 3 (not shown), and connected by a cranked lever 17. Each link 14 carries a slotted member (18), Fig. 2 (not shown), in which a cam follower is adjustably positioned. The cam followers co-operate with a cam which rotates three times in two revolutions of the cylinder whereby the segments move towards and away from the centre of the cylinder. Hence, as sheets are collected on a segment, the segment moves towards the centre of the cylinder so that the outer sheet is kept at a constant distance from said centre. The knife blades 5 of a cutting cylinder 1 are offset such that the arc a is less than the arc b. The blades 5 cut against rubber blocks 7. The folding blades 22 push the completed sets of sheets into the jaws of the folding cylinder 3.
