Abstract
1395542 Upsetting INSTYTUT OBROBKI PLASTYCZNEJ 18 July 1972 [31 July 1971] 33519/72 Heading B3H A method of shaping a zone of an elongated bar 3 comprises upsetting the bar by axially directed forces and squeezing the bar simultaneously in the upset zone to produce a crosssectional dimension in one direction less than that of the original bar and symmetrical about the bar axis. The upsetting may be produced by a pair of clamping dies 1, 1<SP>1</SP> moved simultaneously with a pair of punches 2, 2<SP>1</SP> movable perpendicular to the bar axis. The bar can be shaped intermediate or at its ends and in the latter case a buffer block 4, Fig. 8, is used. A device for performing the method comprises two sets of dies 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 16, mounted by bearing rollers 8, 8<SP>1</SP> and toggles 10, 10<SP>1</SP> to plates 7, 7<SP>1</SP> on the press ram and bed respectively. The punches 2, 2<SP>1</SP> are mounted directly on the plates 7, 7<SP>1</SP>
