Abstract

1395197 Stacking sheets PRINTEX 12 Sept 1972 [15 Sept 1971] 42291/72 Heading B8R Sheets 7, Fig. 1, are stacked on a normally stationary belt 1 between front and rear stops 2, 3, assisted by air blown downwards from a pipe 32. When a stack of a given number of counted sheets is formed, a jack 21 controlled by the counter causes through a pinion 20 and racks 16 the stop 2 to rise above the level of the top of the stack, and a freely rotatable cylinder to descend into contact with the top of the stack, while a motor 4 drives the belt 1 to remove the stack and also drives belts 29 on either side of the stack to frictionally rotate the cylinder 8 at a peripheral speed the same as the speed of the belt 1 so as to maintain the stack upright. The stop 2 and cylinder 8 are adjustable according to sheet length by a hand-wheel 24, pinion 23 and racks 19, 25. In another form, Fig. 3, further cylinders 8<SP>1</SP> are provided to engage the tops of a plurality of stacks spaced along the belt after passing the stop 2, the cylinders 8<SP>1</SP> being rotated by the cylinder 8 through a spring-tensioned belt 38, and being raised and lowered with the cylinder 8 through a spring-tensioned chain 40.
