1394041 Electromagnetic relay contacts ESSEX INTERNATIONAL Inc 26 Feb 1973 [6 March 1972] 9299/73 Heading H1N An electromagnetic relay of the attracted armature type has contact means comprising an elastomeric body 47 or 71 of dielectric material having a quantity of discrete, electrically conductive particles dispersed therein in such a manner that on compression of the body, due to armature movement in one direction, a sufficient number of the particles move into engagement with one another to establish through the body an electrically conductive path. In Fig. 1 the body 47 is mounted between the centre of a spring 24, movable by a plunger armature 11, and a plate contact 19, 20. The contact area may be sealed by a carrier 27 which includes elastomeric inserts 36 similar to the contact means 47 and clamped between terminals 40, 41, 42 and respective conductors 20, 24 and 18 mounted on an insulating plate 17 forming the other wall of the contact chamber which may be filled with oil. In Fig. 8 the body 71 is mounted in a recess 64 in the relay base 50 and is acted upon by a conductor 72 mounted on an insulator 66 on one end of the relay armature 61 which is pivotally mounted on a fulcrum 62 on the base 50. The coil end conductors such as 79 are connected to terminals such as 83 by inserts 81 similar to inserts 36.
