Abstract

1392578 Photographic materials and originals prepared therefrom SOMAR MFG CO Ltd 5 March 1973 [5 March 1972 19 June 1972] 10495/73 Headings G2C and G2X A photographic material for use in preparing originals for lithographic plates comprises a transparent support coated with a layer of gelatine having an isoelectric point of at least 7 and a condensate of a diazonium salt of a substituted or unsubstituted p-amino-diphenylamine and an aldehyde. The original is prepared by imagewise exposing the above material, contacting with an aqueous solution of an acid dye or direct dye to dye the layer and then washing to remove the unexposed areas. The ratio of gelatine to condensate is preferably from 20-60:1 by weight. In the examples, a polyester support is coated with gelatine having an isoelectric point from 7.6 to 9.0 and a pH from 4.5 to 8.0 and the condensate of formaldehyde and p-diazodiphenylamine, imagewise exposed, immersed in an aqueous dye solution and the unexposed areas removed with water. An intermediate, anti-halation layer of diazonium salt and polyvinyl pyrrolidine or vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride copolymer may be used which also improves resolution.
