Abstract

1391155 Air cooled I C engines DAIMLER-BENZ AG 29 May 1973 [30 May 1972] 25395/73 Heading F1B An air-cooled reciprocating piston I. C. engine comprises a cylinder head 1, a cylinder housing 2 and a crank housing 3 which extends to the part of the cylinder housing 2 nearer the cylinder head 1 and adjoins the cylinder head, to which it is attached, the cylinder housing being mounted on a support 8 on the part of the crank housing nearer the cylinder head 1, but spaced axially therefrom and being provided with cooling fins 9 between the support and the head. The cylinder housing 2 is attached to the head 1 by bolts (7) Fig. 2 (not shown). The fins 9 and jacket 10 are of aluminium alloy cast around housing 2. Recesses 11 permit cooling air to flow past support 8 and air passes via an aperture 15 to a duct 20 in the head 1. Each cylinder has a cooling space 16 and a space 18 is common to all cylinders.
