1388771 Knitting machines UNIVERSAL MASCHINENFABRIK DR RUDOLF SCHIEBER KG 24 Feb 1972 [10 March 1971] 8585/72 Heading D1C A flat bed knitting machine cam carriage comprises a base plate 1 with a plurality of exchangeable cam units each comprising a housing with a guide for a cam which is adjustable and can be locked in a preselected position with respect to the guide. In the lock, units 2, 6, 7, 10, 12, 14 form a cam configuration which actuates long and short butted needles. Unit 2 selects needles and comprises parts 3, 4, 5 parts 3 and 4 being movable between fully-inserted, semi-inserted and non- inserted positions by electro-magnets fastened to the base body 5 and if desired a further fourth position. Unit 6 comprises adjustable needle lowerers 8 which pass the needles to unit 10, which has a plastic base 22, for wrapping. The units are replaceably secured by screws and if unit 10 is not required, unit 11 is substituted and unit 6 replaced by unit 6a a mirror image of unit 7. Adjustment of the cams is obtained by pulses fed to base plate 1 by a trailing cable. The system may be mechanicallyswitchable with electromagnets to hold the positions. Unit 10 comprises a plastic housing 22 having bore holes which guide bolts 28, 29 carrying a cam 30 and biassed by springs 31, 32 so that pins 33, 34 engage the housing. Cam 30 may be held against springs 31, 32 by a bolt controlled by electromagnet 36.
