Switches, quick-break.-A press-button-operated switch, of the kind in which the first actuation of the button closes the switch which is retained closed against a quick-action spring return and the second actuation releases the switch, comprises a spring-arm contact-member co-operating with a bunch of fixed spring contact plates having hooked formations and guiding surfaces between which the contact member moves in a simisoidal manner. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 7, the fixed contact 1 consists of three plates 1<1>, 1<11>, 1<111> fixed together at one end to a central wall on the switch base and with their free ends shaped and relatively located as shown in Fig. 7. The movable contact member 2 is formed by the free end of a wire spring fixed to the wall. Fig. II shows the position that the contact member assumes in contact with and locked by the hook on the contact plate 1<1> as a result of actuating and releasing the push-button which bears directly on the contact member. At the second actuation of the button, the contact member is guided by the contact plate 1<11> to the other side of the plate 1<111> and, when the button is released, the contact-member springs back to its original ' off ' position. The straight spring contact arm may be replaced by a volute spring arm or may be duplicated to constitute a double pole switch. The arrangement of five contact plates constituting one contact and another separate spring plate contact 10 is shown in Fig. 5 to form a two-way switch for lighting one or both of two groups of lamps. With the first actuation and release of the button, the contact-member 2 is locked by its engagement with the turnedover end of the contact strip 1<1> and laterally moves the other strips so that the strip 1<1111> engages the second fixed contact 10, and both circuits are closed in parallel. On the second actuation and release the button, the strip 1<1111> is released and the second circuit opened. On a third actuation and release, the contact member assumes its original off position.
