Abstract

1386408 Illuminating instrument panels JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 10 March 1972 [20 March 1971] 7630/71 Heading F4R A lighting arrangement for an instrument panel comprises a pair of parallel channels 13, 14 whose open sides face in the same direction and which are spaced aprt by a web 15, wherein channel 14 has apertures 20 in its side adjacent channel 13, and a pair of light guides 21, 22 extend along the length of respective channels 13, 14. The channel 13 may also be provided with a single aperture 19 on its side adjacent channel 14, which aperture extends along the length thereof to give general illumination of the instruments. Light from an external source is directed via fibre optic elements 24, 25 and prism 23 into the clear acrylic resin light guides 21, 22. The various instruments, e.g. switch 11, project through apertures in the web 15 and the apertures 20 may similarly correspond to the instruments and may have appropriate legends indicating the various instruments.
