Abstract

[Also in Division G1] A transparent annulus 13 is illuminated by light from an optical cable 18 which enters the annulus tangentially. As shown in Fig. 1 a speedometer, having highly polished reflective edges, has two diametrically opposed notches 17 into which a pair of optical cables 18 are fitted, the cables being joined to a light source which may be operated individually or in conjunction with another device, and the edges of the annulus being painted to protect the surfaces. The annulus is snapped into a casing 11 and the cables pass through bores, aligned with the notches, in the casing, and a backing plate (14), Fig.2 (not shown) is positioned to the rear of the annulus; numerals or marks may be provided on the rear of the annulus. In another embodiment the transparent member is substantially disc shaped and is provided with only one cable Fig.3 (not shown). In a further embodiment a transparent annulus (27) acts as a bezel for a cigar lighter, light being introduced tangentially by a single cable (29), Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown).
