Abstract

1380428 Artificial legs K A FRIBERG AB 10 Dec 1971 [7 Jan 1971] 57594/71 Heading A5R An artificial leg comprises a lower-leg compartment 3, 3' in the form of a shell, articulated to a thigh section 1 by a knee-joint shaft 2 at its upper end, and clamped to an upper cylindrical tube 34 of an ankle section 4 at its lower end to enable vertical adjustment of the leg with respect to the ankle, the ankle being articulated to an artificial foot. Axiallyaligned cylinders 9 and 10 are separated by a valve housing 13 through which a common piston rod 11 extends, which rod is pivoted on a pin 7 in an arm 6 extending from the knee-joint shaft 2. The cylinders are connected by a duct (not shown) closeable by means of a valve arm 14 which is biassed into the closed position by a traction spring 15. The lower cylinder 10 is pivoted at its lower end on a bolt 16 across a fork-shaped member 17 which is detachably secured to the lower end 19 of the lower leg component 3' by a catch 18. A lever (21) Fig. 2 (not shown) is journalled at one end (20) in one of the arms of the forkshaped member, and its other end 22 is connected to the lever 14 by means of a threadlike link 23. A coupling wire (Fig. 2, not shown) is attached at its upper end to the centre of the lever and passes through a channel in the fork-shaped member to be attached at its lower end to a clutch 28 in turn attached to a regulating member 29 which is operated by vertical movement of the artificial foot. A clamping sleeve 35 with a vertical slot (36) for a bolt (39) Fig. 3, (not shown) clamps the tubular section 33 of the ankle section.
