Abstract

1,161,666. Artificial legs. CHAS. A. BLATCHFORD & SONS Ltd. 21 April, 1967 [11 Feb., 1966], No. 6197/66. Heading A5R. In an artificial leg wherein a built-in loadbearing alignment device is connected between a load-bearing stump socket 12 and a knee joint mechanism, the alignment device is such as to ,permit adjustment in a vertical anteriorposterior plane and also in a vertical mediolateral plane. As shown, a connecting member 11 secured to the stump socket 12 is clamped at its end 9 in the alignment device 7 such that the connecting member and socket may be adjustably positioned relative to the lower part 1 of the thigh. The alignment device comprises concave and convex blocks 8C, 8E held to a base member 7A on the thigh part 1 by a bolt 10, the end 9 of the connecting member 11 being clamped between the blocks 8C, 8E, and the blocks and the base member 7A being formed with slots 8A, 7B at right angles to each other and through which the bolt 10 passes such that on slackening the bolt 10 the connecting member ,11 and the thigh part 1 .may be moved forward and backwards, sideways, and rotated relative to each other. The stump socket is adjustably secured to the connecting member by screws ,12A, 12B and the thigh is connected to the shin 4 by a knee joint mechanism (not shown) which may be that disclosed in the Specification 779,087. It is stated that the alignment device may be reinforced by a tie member positioned adjacent the alignment device at the back of the thigh.
