Abstract
1379761 Ammonium phosphates SOC ANON CROS 22 Nov 1971 [20 Nov 1970] 54175/71 Heading C1A An ammonium phosphate fertilizer is made by continuously and directly reacting phosphoric acid containing 35-52% P 2 O 5 with anhydrous ammonia on a bed of recycled solids in a rotary granulator at 60-95‹ C., the bed at the granulator outlet having a moisture content of 3-10% and a pH (measured on a 10% aqueous solution) of 3À5-7À0, the ratio of recycled solids to product being 1 :1 to 3 :1. In one embodiment, the ammonia is introduced beneath the solids bed by a plurality of coulter elements to each of which is fixed a tube, each coulter forming a groove in the solids bed into which the ammonia flows (Specification 1,379,763.) The phosphoric acid may also be fed in through similar fixed tubes or sprayed from atomizers over the solids bed. According to the particular pH, monoammonium phosphate, di-ammonium phosphate or intermediate forms thereof are obtainable. Binary, and other fertilizers may be formed by supplying to the reaction zone urea, urea phosphate, ammonium nitrate, a potassium salt or trace element salts. Examples describe the preparation of (1) MAP containing 11% N, 52-53% P 2 O 5 and 1À0- 1 5% H 2 O; (2) DAP (18% N, 46% P) containing 1À0-1À5% H 2 O; (3) a binary fertilizer containing 28% N and 28% P.
