Abstract

1379390 Brake warning devices; brake pressure control valves GIRLING Ltd 31 July 1972 [31 July 1971] 30625/71 Heading F2E and F2F A brake pressure control valve regulates the rear brake pressure relative to the front but upon failure of the latter allows the rear brake pressure to pass to the rear actuators unregulated. Front brake pressure passes from a master cylinder to the front actuators via inlet and outlet ports 4 and rear pressure passes from the master cylinder to the front actuators via inlet 2 and outlet 3. As the pressure increases the combined pressure acting in a chamber 5 on a piston 10 and on the annular area of piston stem 11 overcomes the force of a spring 13 thereby causing a valve head 9 to be seated on seat 7 and closing off inlet 2 from outlet 3. An increase in the inlet 2 pressure again unseats avalve head 9 and this is continually repeated to regulate the rear brake pressure. If the front pressure fails spring 13 holds valve head 9 unseated to allow the rear brake pressure to flow from inlet 2 to outlet 3 unregulated. A warning device 20 may be provided comprising a piston 21 which is acted upon by pressure in chambers 22, 24 connected to the front and rear circuits so that if either of these fail the piston is displaced causing vertical movement of a plunger 26 which actuates an electric warning switch 25.
